Hazit maintains, as would any candid military expert, that the most effective way of stopping Palestinian terrorist attacks on Israel is to destroy the entire terrorist network west of the Jordan River. But since Israel’s ruling elites—such as Ehud Olmert (Kadima), Benjamin Netanyahu (Likud), and Amir Peretz (Labor)—are not exemplars of wisdom and courage, Hazit offers another approach, perhaps equally unrealistic, but instructive. For this purpose we merely update various proposals which the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) made to the Bush administration:

1. Cancel U.S. support for a Palestinian state. Hamas’ landslide victory in the Palestinian elections shows that the Palestinians are not worthy of an independent state. (This was admitted even by left-wing MK Yossi Sarid sixteen years ago, when these Arabs danced on their rooftops while Scud missiles fell on Israel. See Ha’aretz August 17, 1990.)

2. Declare the Hamas-Palestinian Authority (PA) a terrorist entity (which it was under Fatah).

3. Terminate the $100-million in annual U.S. aid to the PA.

4. Stop pressuring Israel to make concessions to the PA. Such concessions are, in effect, a reward for terrorism and they strengthen the terrorist’s weapon-producing factories.

5. Cease condemning Israel’s anti-terror actions against the PA.

6. Use the full weight of American diplomatic and financial leverage to pressure Europe to stop providing funds to the PA.

7. Inform all Arab regimes—especially Egypt—that they will no longer receive any U.S. military or financial assistance if they continue to subsidize the PA.

8. Boycott Iran and intercept any arms shipments from Iran to the PA.

9. Immediately comply with U.S. law requiring the relocation of the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. This will send a powerful message to Arab terrorists that their threats will no longer succeed in shaping U.S. policy in the Middle East.

10. Demand that the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority surrender, to the U.S., all Arabs involved in attacks in which American citizens have been harmed. If the PA refuses to comply, the Bush administration should use all means at its disposal to apprehend the suspects, including sending FBI agents to Arab-controlled areas in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza.
