Paganism, Islamic Style
The term “Western civilization” implies a multiplicity of civilizations. This was not the attitude of Europeans prior to the 18th century. There was but one authentic civilization—Europe—based primarily on Biblical, Greek, and Roman sources. Cultural relativists reject this “ethnocentric arrogance.”
Thanks to these cultural relativists, who reject the idea that one culture may be superior to another, the term “culture” has lost all meaning. Since the 1950s, if not earlier, social science relativists have written about the “culture” of the gang, and even about the “culture” of insane asylums! It was inconsistent with relativism to speak of a “cultured” (or “civilized”) person as opposed to a barbarian.
Syrian-born Wafa Sultan, a psychiatrist who renounced her Muslim upbringing, would probably agree with Egyptian-born Bat Ye’or, an Islamic scholar, that Islam is a “culture of hate.” But Dr. Sultan goes further. Unimpressed or skeptical about Islam’s vaunted cultural achievements, and seeing how countless Muslims delighted in the 9/11 destruction of the World Trade Center and the murder of some 3,000 human beings, Sultan suggests that Islam is not a genuine civilization, if only because it lacks abhorrence of bloodshed (Palestinians murder Palestinians), and toleration of diversity (few non-Muslim authors are translated into Arabic).
But let us put it this way: Whereas Abraham, the father of the Jewish people, welcomed strangers into his tent and refreshed them; Sodom and Gomorrah hated foreigners and violated them. Abraham exhibited compassion in the name of God; Islam displays cruelty in the name of Allah. The monotheism of the former fructified civilization; the monotheism of the latter justifies barbarism.
To put it another way: The Muslim use of children as human bombs to kill Jews is no less savage than the cannibalism of Brazilian Indians. That countless Muslims condone and even praise such barbarism indicates that a frightful number hate Jews more than they love their own children.
Nor is this all. Islamic hatred, which of course extends to all “infidels,” prompts Muslims to reduce their enemies to the subhuman level. Writing on the subject in The New York Times (December 18, 1994), Steven Erlanger quotes the celebrated Russian author Leo Tolstoi, who had this to say about the Muslim reaction to the Russian destruction of a Chechen village: “The emotion felt by every Chechen, old and young, was stronger than hatred. It was not hatred, it was a refusal to recognize these Russian dogs as men at all, and a feeling of such disgust [and] revulsion … that the urge to destroy them—like the urge to destroy rats, venomous spiders, or wolves—was an instinct as natural as self-preservation.”
This boundless hatred describes the feelings of Muslims toward Jews. Let me remind the reader of how the late Syrian president Hafaz Assad celebrated the tenth anniversary of the Yom Kippur War. He had Syrian militia girls killing four-foot snakes with their teeth, blood running down their cheeks. The pieces were then roasted and served to Syrian militia men. The men subsequently twisted off the necks of puppies and drank their blood. Need I say what the snakes and puppies represent to these Syrians—and not only to Syrians?
Arabs citizens of Israel have not only participated in hundreds of terrorist attacks against Jews, including suicide bombings. In an August 1990 poll, no less than 62% of these Arabs supported Saddam Hussein’s rape of Kuwait, surely because of his threat to incinerate half of Israel.
Although one can find Qu’ranic verses favorable to Jews, those who focus on, and draw conclusions from, such verses suffer from what psychologist Harry Stack Sullivan called “selective inattention.” The Qu’ran’s imperative in dealing with Jews? “Kill them wherever you find them” (Sura 2:190). Moreover, the Qu’ran praises the Muslim who “slays and is slain” for Allah (Sura 9:111).
Nevertheless, purblind politicians like Ehud Olmert, Shimon Peres, and Yossi Beilin believe Muslims can live in abiding peace with Jews. Lenin would call these politicians “useful idiots,” since they are willing to surrender strategically vital land to Israel’s implacable enemies: for example, the Golan Heights to Syrians, who, as indicated above, regard Jews not as human beings but as snakes and dogs.
To conclude: Israel is confronted by enemies whose gory paganism is obscured by a counterfeit monotheism, which prompted Ibn Warraq to write Why I am Not a Muslim. But what statesman has the wherewithal to expose this colossal world-historical fraud, which now enthralls more than a billion Qu’ranic believers? A multitude of professors and journalists in the so-called free world now fear for their lives should they reveal the truth about Islam.
