All those who went to Homesh to express their Jewish commitment to Eretz Israel deserve the greatest praise. Their evacuation by the police will not dishearten them. Among them will be the leaders of a future Israel.

How do citizens of Israel elect the 120 members of the Knesset—their parliament? Before answering this question, certain facts need to be recalled.

First, Israel makes the entire country a single electoral district where parties with fixed slates of candidates vie for seats on the basis of proportional representation.

Part I. Israel’s Unjust System of Government

I think everyone will agree that a just government is one whose rulers rule for the sake of the common good, and that an unjust government is one whose rulers rule to advance their own personal interests.

In Israel, polls indicate that as much as 90% of the public regards members of the Knesset as corrupt, as more concerned about their personal interests than the national interest. It thus appears that 90% of the people of Israel regard their government as unjust. (more…)

It has been reported that more than 7,000 French Jews have signed a petition asking for political asylum in the United States because of anti-Semitism in France.

Perhaps more than 7,000 Jews in Judea and Samaria should sign a petition asking for political asylum in the United States because they may soon suffer the same fate of the 8,000 Jews who were expelled from Gush Katif—a manifestation of anti-Semitism couched in the name of the “unilateral disengagement.”

Despite the Arab use of their own children as human bombs to murder Jews—a barbarism cheered by Muslims throughout the world—Israel’s political elites continue to negotiate with the leaders of these murderers. Washington is afflicted by the same syndrome—really shameless. It matters not to our champions of humanism that Islam denies the concept of humanity, that its history is punctuated by the slaughter and degradation of perhaps more than 200 million human beings.

Of course there are Muslim “moderates.” But what distinguishes them from Muslim “extremists”? (more…)

Fearful of anti-Semitism, some misguided people have said Israel is bad for the Jews. But it’s not Israel but Israel’s government that is bad for the Jews. We see this even when the government is led by the Likud, ostensibly a Zionist or nationalist party. But Likud Zionism is first and foremost political or secular, and this Zionism has turned out to be bad for the Jews.

This was foreseen by Dr. Isaac Breuer, a religious Zionist who was one of the greatest exponents of Jewish thought in the first half of the twentieth century. Although he admired Theodor Herzl, he maintained that only observant Jews can be true Zionists, (more…)

These other organizations, however, have back-tracked on the decisive issue of making members of the Knesset individually elected by and accountable to the voters in constituency or regional elections.

Contrary to conventional wisdom, the war in Iraq must and can be won. But let’s start at the beginning. When you drive, it makes sense to look in the rear-view mirror. When you go to another country (as a tourist, warrior, liberator, occupier or conqueror) it is advisable to review its history, geography and population composition, at least in broad terms. Many in the civilized world don’t distinguish between Shiites and Sunnis, nor do they care. But they should.

Alan Nunn May, British nuclear physicist employed on top-secret research, illegally passed classified information to the Soviet Union, thereby assisting the Russians in their development of the atom bomb. Arrested in March 1946, he was sentenced on May 1, 1946 to ten years’ imprisonment.

Something to ponder when thinking about Jonathan Pollard, who has thus far served more than twenty years’ imprisonment for illegally passing classified information to Israel, America’s ally—information the American government withheld from Israel in contravention of the two countries’ strategic cooperation agreement.
