The War Against Judaism: Its Underlying Significance

A war is being waged against Judaism. The war is being fought on many fronts and by different enemies. By far the most dangerous enemy is the government of Israel, notwithstanding the participation in the government of one or another religious party. In fact, even the religious parties are untrustworthy. Having facilitated the Oslo Agreement and Disengagement, they have helped their secular counterparts in stripping Israel of Jewish land.

Israel’s government employs many weapons in its war against Judaism. It has diminished the funding of education for religious education, especially among the haredim, Israel’s most prolific population—yes, and a great threat to the Establishment.

The government has increased the number of gentiles in this country via the ā€œgrandfather clauseā€ of the Law of Return, as well as by granting citizenship to foreign workers.

Most pernicious is Israel’s Supreme Court. The court has imported American jurisprudence to secularize Israel. It has issued rulings that foster pornography, homosexuality and gay marriages. It is undermining the family, the heart of Judaism.

Steeped in mischief, and contrary to Jewish as well as objective international law, the court has ruled that Judea, Samaria, and Gaza are ā€œbelligerent occupied territory.ā€

Moreover, the court has deliberately refrained from enforcing Basic Law: The Knesset, which prohibits parties that reject Israel as a Jewish state. The court’s agenda is to transform Israel into ā€œa state of its citizens.ā€

Consistent therewith, Israel’s political elites, including Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Foreign Minister Tsipi Livni, Education Minister Yuli Tamir, Meretz chairman Yossi Beilin, envision Israel as another Sweden—a multicultural society.

If this were not enough, Shimon Peres—by his own words a non-Jew—has become Israel’s president!

The Sages of the Talmud understood that the greatest anti-Semites are Jews. But this is no reason to despair.

The birthrate of religious Jews is increasing. Torah learning is flourishing. The intellectual discipline of religious schools far excels that of secular schools—and more and more parents are sending their children to the former. Unsurprisingly, an increasing number of religious Jews will now be found in all the professions. The convergence of science and Torah is proceeding apace, unprecedented in Jewish history.

Meanwhile, as much as 90 percent of Israel’s Jewish population is disgusted with Israel’s corruption infested political system. Sooner or later this system of government will be relegated to the trash heap of history.

Hence there is no reason to despair. The very dangers confronting Israel from abroad have exposed the ineptitude of the Secular Establishment. Jews that placed their trust in the State, in Democracy, in the Israel Defense Forces, are awakening to the One and only Guardian of Israel.
